If you don't know the truth, you fall for any lies.

One of the biggest lies in modern Christianity in the U.S. is this: That generations that were raised on Bronson, Eastwood, Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and Statham have it stuck in their minds that Jesus is an angry figure with his shirt torn off showing his chiseled chest, glistening with sweat, draped in red, white, and blue, riding on the barrel of a M1 tank, and holding an M60 with the ammo belt wrapped around his arm tearing His so called "enemies" apart. And of course in their mind His "enemies" are the people they don't agree with, politically, societally, spiritually, racially, sexually, or theologically. That is a lie straight from a satanic pit, cleanse your mind of this falsehood and renew your mind. Jesus isn't some single minded, vengeance filled, retaliatory, muscled up, jock type action hero, quick to shoot first and ask questions later. He is so far beyond what our minds, manipulated by Hollywood blockbusters, consider a hero, and...

God wants us holy not happy

Image
I have finally figured out why certain people are so adamant about this “God wants us holy not happy” nonsense. It’s because they picture a “Holy God” as being so stinking angry and ready to smite anyone that looks at Him wrong. So in their mind they can’t fathom how holiness and happiness can live together. And they behave like this fabrication of a god they constructed in their mind. It just is frustrating that you can’t convince them that they are so completely off base.

Angry God?

It never ceases to amaze me at how many "Christians" have an angry, evil, fear mongering, hate-filled god. On second glance their god sounds an awfully lot like satan. Makes me wonder.

Angry God.

What Abandoning Evangelicalism Does And Does Not Look Like

Image
Zack Hunt put into words what I have done without knowing what I did: What Abandoning Evangelicalism Does And Does Not Look Like In the wake of the epic World Vision fiasco last week I wrote a post calling for the abandonment of evangeli calism in favor of “new wineskins.” That call wasn’t an impulsive reaction. It was the continuation of something I began talking about two years ago and others began calling for many years before that. Last week’s disaster only reinforced my conviction that evangelicalism is a culture/mindset/structure that needs to be left on the ash heap of history. I am convinced this is necessary because I believe evangelicalism is a structure built around core values that are either deeply problematic and/or altogether antithetical to the gospel. Among them – a dangerously high view of Scripture that transform the Bible into a weapon to be wielded rather than good news to be shared; a radical personalization and internalization of the faith that makes th...

God is gooder

I don't understand why many Christians get mad when you proclaim a good God that is so very good all the time. A God that came to heal, not cause, sickness. Came to calm, not cause, storms. Came to set free from, not place into, prisons. And, you even show scriptural proof that He is gooder (I like that word) than the God they think He is, as well as historical proof that those who wrote about Him before He walked the earth had limited revelation of the difference between Him and darkness and were looking through the glass darkly. It's like to them He's only allowed to be a certain level of good and if He gets gooder, He somehow now becomes bad. Unfortunately their version of good includes Him doing what those not blinded know factually to be bad eg. steal, kill, destroy. I just don't get it. My God is gooder than I can even imagine. He's got to be to have died for the world while the world was still sinning. ‪ ‬
