It's funny, when crazy things happen American Christians™ act like the past was all rosy, sunshine, lollipops, & rainbows. Well I'm here to tell ya, no, no, it wasn't.   There was more violence in the past, the type of violence you will most likely never have to deal with, even as crazy as things look now, there just wasn't social media to spread it around the world in an instant, and there wasn't a politics driven media trying to manipulate your emotions and feelings to cause   an "us against them" mentality.   Grow up and learn history, your vacuous memories are as false as your many Christian beliefs are.  

Not even going back to 1996 and his speech then which was pretty close to the speech he just gave almost 2 decades later (look it up if you need a refreshing of your memory), here is his great "wisdom" from 2002. I don't tell people I'm a sinner because His Word says I'm a Saint, who am I to call God a liar? My God told me that who I am is based on what He did, not what I do. I know what Jesus' Blood is worth and I'm never going to disrespect the price He paid by claiming I'm able to do something to change His purchase of me by any of my actions, good or bad.
